Til Chikki

Til chikki, a flavourful desert prepared by sesame seeds and jaggery. It is typically prepared during the festival of Maker Sankrati, Lohari and is exchanged with friends and family.

Sesame seeds are consumed mainly in winter days because they have ability to generate heat and energy in the body and its numerous nutritional benefits. As we all know sesame seeds are good source of calorie, protein and fats. Other than this they are also rich in calcium, phosphorous, thiamine, niacin and folic acid.  Jaggery is calorie dense food ingredient and also contains some amount of phosphorus, calcium and iron.

  • ½ Cup Sesame Seeds
  • ½ Cup Jaggery
  • 1 Tsp Ghee

  1. Roast sesame seeds in pan on low heat.
  2. Now on another kadhai heat ghee and jaggery.
  3. Boil the jaggery syrup till it turns glossy and is thickened.
  4. Check the consistency of jaggery syrup; it should be at hard ball stage.
  5. Now add roasted sesame seeds to the jaggery syrup. Mix properly.
  6. Make sure jaggery coats well to sesame seeds.
  7. Immediately pour the mixture on butter paper or steel plate greased with ghee.
  8. Using rolling-pin roll the mixture in thick block.
  9. Allow it to set for a minute and cut the chikki in desired shape.
